I work clinically with adults (18+) presenting with trauma based symptoms such as distressing memories, intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, images, nightmares, reliving the event.
My therapeutic approach is warm, compassionate and patient. I want to make sure your session with me is a calm and safe space. I take a collaborative approach, combining your expertise about your life experiences with my expertise of psychological theory. Together we can work to understand and process what has happened to you.
Therapy sessions will offer you a space to reflect on past and present experiences. I can help you learn coping strategies to improve your psychological wellbeing. Firstly we will spend time building a sense of trust so you feel safe to tell me your story, then together we will create a formulation of your current difficulties and symptoms. Using this formulation, we will collaboratively create a therapy treatment plan for you. Generally, we will spend quite a bit of time on safety and stabilisation work before moving onto any trauma processing work. Often trauma processing work can be quite emotionally taxing so we need to make sure you have the resources and tools to navigate this safely.
I have a special interest in working with mothers who have experienced birth trauma but can support any gender, sexuality, age or background, I aim to be inclusive and person centred in my work.
I can treat single event trauma (e.g. birth, medical procedure, natural disaster, fires, road traffic accident, victim of crime, violent assault, rape, life threatening illness or accident, witnessing violent or sudden death) . I can also support people with complex trauma who have experienced multiple distressing events during their lifetime (e.g. childhood abuse, abusive relationships, war zone experience, witnessing community violence). If you are unsure please get in touch to see if we would be a good fit.
I have been working in mental health services for over 13 years and I have been qualified as Clinical Psychologist for 7 years. I continue to work in a senior role for the NHS in specialist service for adults with complex trauma and personality difficulties. Alongside my therapeutic work I am also qualified to offer Cognitive Assessments (WAIS-IV).
I offer compassionate and evidence based psychological therapy to help you move forward and make sense of what has happened to you. I want to help people heal from trauma and live fulfilling lives. If you are feeling like you are 'stuck' or 'frozen' after a distressing event I can work with you to shift this. I can also support people who may have experienced multiple traumatic events. I work in an integrative way using the following models: Eye Movement Desensitisation Processing (EMDR), Schema Therapy (ST), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) to help you process the traumatic memories and move forward with your life. I have a particular interest in supporting people to heal from birth and perinatal trauma.
